Corum ..
After our 3 day tour to Cappadocia we returned to Ankara for a couple of days and then the Turans had planned a trip north toward the Black sea to visit Semmas parents in a quaint country farming village where they had choosen to retire. (It was also the village where Semmas dad had been born) It was a 3-4 your car trip but freeway nearly all the way with intersting farming communities all along the way.

This was a stop in a little town close to where Semmas parents lived where we stopped to buy provisions for the weekend festivities.

A local butcher shop were we bought the meat (beef, lamb and chicken) for our weekend.

Just a couple of km on the road into the village we noticed a poor calf on the side of the road in the 35 degree heat and decided to stop and give it some water and see that it got to a water trough. The folks then contacted its owner

Taking the calf to the water facility ... with the village in the background.

Arrival at Semmas parents home  ...  a lovely spot with a lush garden in an otherwise dry and hot landskape.

The bread storage cupboard ... It is dry hard bread here but moistened up with water before serving it on the table.

Diniz with her mom picking berries in her grandmas garden,.

Mustafa helping me visit with Semmas dad ... as we wait for the tea to be ready!

Tanner and Demir getting things ready for the evening barbeque ...

Filling up bottles at the community water well.  They have water and sewer in the home ... but get drinking water here at a village facility.

Somewhat of a gathering spot for  village folks.

This is a view of the village from the community well ... probably 50 -100 people live here.

We met this lovely older lady at the well .. and helped her home with her water ... she let me take a picture of her outside her yard.

Deniz went with me to see a wheat field close to her grandparents home.

The family has a tradition of playing a game together in the evenings ... and we got to watch. I won't say who won!!

Sorry that we just missed the grain harvest ... but it apparently was a good crop this year.

On a morning walk with Mustafa and Birsen ... a country side a bit more rolling ... but otherwise not so unlike my home in Saskatchewan.

Deniz was great at helping me as a translator for her grandfather ... she studies English at school and was quite good at helping us get to know her grandparents.

On a day trip in the countryside we stopped at this water source that Semmas dad had built and donated to the community in memory of his mother that grew up here.

Here we stopped at an archaeological excavation site where articfacts had been found from 6000 BC.  These religious monuments were from 2000 - 3000 BC. .. Also a grave site from that time.

Lots of old stuff we were impressed by ... but didn't really understand what they all were!!

This showed the different levels representing different periods of time here.

A stop for coffee in the little town after the visit!

Another historical site ... The remains of a complete city (the capital of the Hittite civilization)  The wall around this major city was 16 km long,

The remains of a city from 2000 BC ... an advanced period in history that apparently fell for no particular reason than intern disagreement ... I was impressed by the sizable grain storage (and oil storage)  facilities from that time.

Another stop for refreshment after the heat of walking through a piece of ancient history.

The final evening here, the folks had arranged a lovely meal for us all as well as some of the local farmers.

This was our wonderful hosts for the weekend ... Semma on the left .. her sister on the right and parents in the middle.
