Life

In this chapter of my life, I no longer wear any particular religious label. However,  the beautiful moral principles I was taught to respect and strive for as a boy remain the foundation and inner goals of my life.
  • Kindness and hospitality – especially toward the misunderstood and the disadvantaged
  • Empathy and the will to understand – and to truly listen, especially to the silenced and the unspoken voices
  • Consideration and regard for folks outside our own social groups or situations
  • Humility in the face of the many forces and challenges far beyond us
  • Confidence in the power of simple decency and honesty
  • Respect and love for fellow human beings who are unlike ourselves
  • Harmony as a goal in relationship – but never at the expense of moral principle
As a youth, I was taught that these were Christian principles. Now I understand that no religion owns them. And today—especially in its  American expression—Christianity has become a defiler and betrayer of every one of them.
