The Virtues of Violence?

People are different – so are societies. The above writer was American .. but in conflict with his society, understood the fruitlessness and counter-productivity of violence. His society is probably one of the greatest proponents of the, so called, “Christian” virtues of violence, killing and destruction in the world.

All radically militant societies as such, vehemently support the right 'to at will, kill anyone, man woman or child, in any country in the world, if political determination has suggested that national interests seem to be threatened. It has recently been suggested that the killing of civilian, non-involved  men woman and children is morally acceptable  even when it is as high as 80 to 90% of intended targets. The right to kill the innocent has obviously been successively built into both the culture and into the mindset of the war indoctrinated.

This same society approves (and demands) the government killing of its own citizens if they haven't lived up to the demands of the rule makers in high places – 'Death row' – is a carefully decorated and well trafficked street, its destiny well understood, well funded, and well approved by the icons of the American society. Part of the governments approved agenda is to kill is own citizens. The most scientific methods of quietly killing American citizens so they don't gasp and jerk in the process are still proudly under research.

What is more, this society has openly given its own citizens the right to kill each other without the need of court procedure or justice system (if they feel their property is being infringed on in some unsuitable way)  -- The virtues of violence are deeply embedded in the culture.

The propaganda of violent societies will always point out that non-violent solutions don't always seem to be effective as wished – as if violence can ever guarantee people will live together in harmony. Check all modern history for the effectiveness of societies that implement destruction and killing as accepted policy!!

I am proud to live in a society that has rejected war as a solution for the last 200 years. A society that rejects violence as the solution for any disagreements, at any level. A society that is a long way from perfect – but a society and culture where violence and killing has no virtue – and where neither war nor warriors are glorified as heroes.
