Amazingly proud of you Ellen, as you launch out into the teaching
profession -- Education is internationally accepted as the
greatest contributor to making our world a better place! An
amazing proffession and you have worked hard to make it yours.
I have
lived in Sweden for 45 years now … have had 6 children attend the
Swedish public school system ---(for now over 29 continuous years
and ongoing!) This has given me a great respect for the goals and
effectiveness of the system. I regard it a privelage that our
children have all had the advantage of involvement in this wonderful
education system --- and now you are part of it!!
Doubtlessly it is not perfect, so you will meet challenge, but
it unquestionably has given each in our family just what
has been needed to establish the course of a fullfilling life.
I am sure that this will be your goal for each of the students that
you teach and mentor.
To me, one of the important documents written into the Swedish
national corriculum is called 'basic moral value ' (värdegrund) ---
basic human equality - respect for all - non-violence in conflict
resolution -- tolerance - personal responsibility .. an aspiration
toward the understanding others etc --- When I realize that it is
these values your profession devotes itself to, it makes me proud of
your career choice. It is these values imprinted in the students
you teach that will give us all hope for a positive future in an
uneasy world.
Your mom and dad
